Thief rips iPad out of child's arms

TAMARAC, Fla. - A 4-year-old boy had an iPad stolen out of his hands as he waited in a Florida beauty parlor for his mother to finish work -- and the brazen theft was caught on video, reports CBS Miami.

Alejandro Ariza was watching cartoons on the iPad while his mother, Jenny Rincon, a cosmetologist in training, was helping a client at Grace Salon in Tamarac on Friday. Suddenly, a young man walked into the salon and snatched the iPad from the little boy's hands before fleeing.

The incident was captured on surveillance cameras inside the salon.

"I was afraid, I was very nervous," Rincon told the station.

Rincon, Alejandro and others in the salon attempted to chase down the thief but were unsuccessful.

Grace Plata, the salon's owner, told the station she never expected something like that to happen in her place of work.

"Now we're going to have to change a lot of things here to make my clients more secure," she said.

The iPad actually belonged to Alejandro's friend, 7-year-old Andres Garcia, who was in a store a few doors down at the time of the theft. He told the station he wishes he was there so that he and his friend Alejandro could have nabbed the thief together.

"I could have jumped on him," the 7-year-old told the station. "And Alejandro could have sat on him."

No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
