Watch Matt Damon in survival mode in "The Martian" trailer
"Help is just 140 million miles away" for Mark Watney, who's stranded on Mars.
Matt Damon is "The Martian" in Ridley Scott's new science-fiction drama based on the bestselling book by Andy Weir, about an astronaut accidentally abandoned on the hostile red planet, presumed dead after a catastrophe forced his crew to abort the mission and return to Earth.
The first trailer from the 20th Century Fox film gives glimpses of Watney forced to "science the sh*it out of" a few weeks of supplies to provide himself subsistence for the four years he would need to stay alive if there were any hope of rescue. He becomes the first Martian farmer, and a self-taught rocket scientist, alone and only with his plucky spirit to propel him through and re-engineer lost communication with Earth -- where everyone believes he's a goner.
Damon is joined in "The Martian" by Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels and Donald Glover as fellow astronauts and the NASA team that vows to bring him back through deadly missions.
The movie opens Nov. 25, 2015.
