Woman tried to grab toddler from stroller on D.C. train, official says

WASHINGTON D.C.-- A Washington transit official says a woman tried to grab a toddler who was strapped into her stroller while riding a train with her mother, but another passenger tackled her.

CBS affiliate WUSA reports that the child involved in the alleged attempted kidnapping is a 2-year-old.

Metro spokeswoman Sherry Ly says the attempted kidnapping occurred about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday near the Foggy Bottom station. She says the woman tried to grab the child but wasn't able to get her out of the stroller.

WUSA reports that the incident happened on the Orange Line train.

Ly says another passenger tackled the woman and held her down until police arrived. Metro police took the woman into custody. She has not been formally charged.

The train was bound for New Carrollton, Maryland.
