Video: Vet motorcyclist run over in apparent road-rage incident
LUTZ, Fla. -- A Florida driver is accused of running over a Navy veteran and his passenger who were riding on a motorcycle Monday. The apparent road-rage incident was captured on cellphone video by another motorist, reports CBS affiliate WTSP.
According to Florida Highway Patrol incident reports, witnesses said driver Robert Paul Vance and 46-year-old Joseph Calderazzo, the motorcyclist, exchanged "choice words" on Monday evening just before the vehicle changed lanes and drove into the bike. Calderazzo and his female passenger were knocked to the ground.
The incident reportedly happened after Calderazzo took part in a Memorial Day motorcycle ride with fellow veterans.
The bikers weren't seriously injured, but Calderazzo told WTSP that he feared for his life.
"I thought the guy was trying to kill us obviously," Calderazzo said. "You know you don't know what's going through (his) mind. Is he going to put the car in reverse? Is he going to turn around? Is he going to stop and pull out a gun?"
The incident report says Vance drove away but several witnesses followed him. Vance is also accused of sideswiping one of the witnesses.
Vance is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury. Court records don't indicate whether he's hired a lawyer.
