Vice President Biden to introduce Lady Gaga at the Oscars

Biden kicks off effort to reexamine sexual assault on college campuses

Vice President Joe Biden will introduce Lady Gaga at the Oscars on Sunday evening, according to the vice president's office.

Biden will introduce Gaga's performance of her nominated song "Till It Happens To You," from the documentary "The Hunting Ground," which is about sexual assaults on college campuses.

His office says that as a longtime advocate against sexual assault and domestic violence, and as the author of the Violence Against Women Act, the vice president will call on everyone in the audience "to speak out and help change the culture around sexual assault."

The vice president's wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will also attend the awards show.

In 2014, the White House unveiled the "It's On Us," initiative to help prevent sexual assault. Biden has traveled to colleges and universities around the country to promote the initiative.

The first lady announced via satellite the best picture at the Academy Awards in 2013.
