Unemployed? Kiss your dating life goodbye

When it comes to dating, there is a literal kiss of death: unemployment.

Americans' have a wide range of views about gender, romance and money. But across the board, the worst situation for finding a date is being jobless, according to a new poll from The Associated Press and WE tv.

More than half of respondents said they would be uncomfortable with dating someone who is unemployed, making it the worst out of the eight financial-situation questions posed. The next-worst state of affairs? Having significant student loan debt, with 42 percent of respondents saying this would be a turn-off for them.

Dating apps that are flying under the radar

Americans are fairly traditional when it comes to gender-based roles and dating. About half said the man should be the one to pay for a first date.

Still, there were caveats: most respondents (70 percent) said it was unacceptable to expect your date to pay for everything. Other no-nos included searching online to find out how successful your date is, as well as turning down a date because the person asking is perceived as unsuccessful, with 63 percent and 61 percent condemning those actions, respectively.

When it comes to men's earnings versus women's, there were also some traditional views, with men less likely to say they're comfortable dating someone who makes significantly more than them, The AP found.

Of course, getting into a conversation about finances on a date is not so easy. According to the poll, about two-thirds of respondents said it was harder to talk about money than sex.
