Two small children found in submerged truck die; 2 arrested

SALINE CO., Ark. – Police in Arkansas say they found the bodies of two small children in a truck submerged in a pond, reports CBS affiliate WTHV.

Saline County Sheriff's deputies were called about a missing truck with two children inside late Wednesday night. While heading towards the call, dispatchers reportedly notified deputies that the truck was found inside a pond close to the address.

The children, a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old, received emergency treatment but both later died due to their injuries.

Police arrested two suspects who they believe are connected to the deaths. Jonathan Welborn, 30, and 26-year-old Brittany Hairston, 26, have been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office considers this an active and open investigation.  They didn't immediately respond to a request from CBS News' Crimesider for more information.
