Two Maryland teens charged with murder in robbery-turned-homicide

BALTIMORE, Md. – Two teens have been charged in the murder of a 51-year-old woman near Patterson Park, Md., reports CBS Baltimore.

A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested on Sunday for the murder of Kimberly Leto, according to police.

CBS Baltimore reports Leto was pronounced dead inside her home on Friday. The victim had reportedly suffered from trauma to her body.

In a news conference, Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts called the killing “unconscionable,” reports the Baltimore Sun. “It is unacceptable to see family after family ripped apart by such petty behavior. This is a heartbreaking tragedy on so many levels,” Batts said.

Authorities believe the motive for the crime was robbery. Police said change, electronics and small personal items were taken from the house, according to the Sun.

The two suspects face charges of first-degree murder and several other offenses.
