"Transparent" season 2 coming this December

Amazon's "Transformation": How the online retailer is disrupting Hollywood

Amazon Prime's breakout hit "Transparent" is coming back for a second season December 4.

The premiere was announced at the Television Critic's Association press tour after a teaser of the season was shown to journalists.

The series is renewed for another season already, and creator Jill Soloway is excited to see where the story will go.

"Over the course of the past year, as it has become this tsunami in the zeitgeist, the most exciting part is the civil rights movement," she said. "Even though we're making a television show, to feel like it's all for a larger cause is the most exciting part of all of this."

"Transparent" stars Jeffery Tambor as Maura, a father and family man trying to negotiate gender transition. The series has been praised as groundbreaking for its portrayal of gender transition and the trans community.

The series won Tambor his first Golden Globe for Best Actor and Amazon their first Golden Globe for Best Series.

In forecasting the upcoming series at the press tour, Soloway hinted that Maura's journey is about to get dark. The result of expanding understanding is less explaining and more realism.

This is rooted in the subjective experiences of a trans writer for the show, Our Lady J.

"Having a trans woman in the writers' room has really allowed us to tell the story more from her own place of subjectivity," Soloway said.
