A helicopter crashed into the ocean off the Hawaiian island of Kauai on Thursday, leaving one person dead and two others missing, the Kauai Police Department said.
Hikers reported seeing the helicopter crash about a quarter mile off the Na Pali Coast and called police around 1:20 p.m., the police department said in a statement.
The Robinson R44 helicopter was part of Ali'i Kaua'i Air Tours and Charters, authorities said.
One person's body was recovered around 2:30 p.m. Thursday as crews launched a search for the other two people.
On Sunday, authorities canceled the search for the missing pilot and passenger after searching more than 60 hours across hundreds of square miles.
In announcing the search suspension Sunday, authorities identified the missing pilot as local resident Guy Croydon, 69, and the missing passenger as James Quintua, 60. The passenger who was recovered after the crash was Amy Nichole Ruark Quintua, 53.
The Quintuas were from Union, Kentucky, Kauai officials said. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
