Tony Awards to toast the best of Broadway

Get ready for some razzle dazzle this weekend as Broadway toasts its best and brightest at the 69th annual Tony Awards.

This year's ceremony will be hosted by two Broadway veterans and past Tony winners -- Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth, who is also among this year's nominees for her role in the musical "On the 20th Century."

In April, after the nominees were announced -- the musicals "An American in Paris" and "Fun Home" are tied for the most with 12 nods apiece -- Chenoweth teased that the telecast will be "kookoo bananas."

"I want to kill it" with Cumming, she added. "Broadway all the way!"

The Tonys telecast will air live Sunday on CBS from New York City's Radio City Music Hall, kicking off at 8 p.m. ET. Attendees and viewers at home can expect to see plenty of performances -- all of the nominated musicals will take the stage to show off their stuff. The best musical contenders are "An American in Paris," "Fun Home," "Something Rotten!" and "The Visit," and those up for best musical revival are "The King and I," "On the Town" and "On the 20th Century."

Musicals overlooked in those categories won't be left out in the cold, though. There will also be performances from "Gigi" with Vanessa Hudgens, "Finding Neverland" with Matthew Morrison and Kelsey Grammer, and "It Shoulda Been You" with Tyne Daly.

And Josh Groban will be taking the stage too, with a little help from 175 other performers -- the most in a single number in Tonys history.

Even if you're not a Broadway insider or frequent show-goer, there will be plenty of famous faces to keep an eye out for. Aside from the night's performers and nominees, the list of presenters includes Jason Alexander, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Chlumsky, Bradley Cooper, Misty Copeland, Bryan Cranston, Larry David, Taye Diggs, Sutton Foster, Marg Helgenberger, Joe Manganiello, Debra Messing, Jennifer Nettles, Jim Parsons, David Hyde Pierce, Thomas Sadoski, Amanda Seyfried, Taylor Schilling, Corey Stoll, Kiefer Sutherland, Sting, Ashley Tisdale, Rita Wilson and four-time Tonys host Neil Patrick Harris.

The list of nominees also has some Hollywood sparkle -- Bradley Cooper and Patricia Clarkson are nominated for their roles in "The Elephant Man," while the leading actress in a play category includes nominees Helen Mirren ("The Audience"), Elisabeth Moss ("The Heidi Chronicles"), Carey Mulligan ("Skylight") and "The Affair" star Ruth Wilson ("Constellations"). Ken Watanabe is up for leading actor in a musical for his role in "The King and I," and Chita Rivera is a contender for her role in "The Visit."

The night will also include a special honor for performer Tommy Tune, who'll receive a special Tony Award for lifetime achievement in the theater. And Stephen Schwartz, the composer and lyricist behind musical hits like "Pippin" and "Wicked," will receive the Isabelle Stevenson award, which honors those in the theater community who support humanitarian, social service or other charitable organizations.
