Trump vs. Fox
Donald Trump not surprisingly claimed victory over Fox News by not showing up to the network's Republican primary debate, and instead holding his own impromptu veterans benefit in Des Moines. So who really won the spat? As ever, it depends who you ask.
Shine, or burn
With the billionaire Republican front-runner absent from the GOP debate -- the final one before the Iowa caucuses are held -- seven other candidates had a chance to stand in the spotlight. For the two men closest to Trump in the polls, that spotlight seemed exceedingly hot at times.
Walmart town
More than 100 Walmarts around the country shut their doors for good this week. Many were in small towns and rural areas with few other shopping options, and the nationwide closures will impact thousands of employees, but in Whitewright, Texas -- population 1,700 -- the fallout doesn't end there.
"Murderous" mosquitoes
When you think of the world's most dangerous animals, an insect may not be the first thing that comes to mind. But mosquitoes transmit diseases that kill millions of people each year -- Zika virus is just the latest mosquito-borne threat to make headlines.
The rescuers
Winter is normally quieter on the Greek coastline, but this year rescuers have been taken by surprise; about 50,000 migrants have made the dangerous crossing from Turkey this month alone. We meet an all-volunteer rescue team -- including a 73-year-old retiree -- who risk their own safety to save thousands of lives.
Football booze
For some, watching football and drinking beer just go together. But this year's Super Bowl is being played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, just 85 miles from America's premier wine region. So it's no surprise the industry has been a big draw for the teams and some of the players.
Holly roller
One of the two Fiats used by Pope Francis on his visit to Philadelphia last fall will be auctioned off today at the city's auto show. The car has become a symbol of Francis' unpretentious style. In a room full of hundreds of bigger, faster, more luxurious cars, the little Italian number is poised to steal the show.
