Donald Trump
A new poll shows Trump building on his lead atop the GOP presidential field, with 27 percent of Republicans nationwide backing the real estate mogul. He has dismissed the rest of the GOP pack and repeated his debunked claim that he saw thousands of Muslims celebrating in New Jersey on 9/11, and his campaign continues to offer up purported proof.
Fighting ISIS
President Obama has ordered about 200 American Special Operations forces to deploy to a base in northern Iraq, from which they will carry out missions in that country and neighboring Syria targeting senior ISIS operatives. British lawmakers, meanwhile, will decide today whether to join the fight in Syria, at least from the air.
Gun violence
Democrats and physician advocates will call on Congress this week to reverse a funding ban on gun violence research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that has been in place for nearly 20 years. But the move to reverse the ban could be looking at long odds given the current power-balance on Capitol Hill.
