Alaska's mountain

President Obama begins a three-day trip to the state on the edge of the nation to push his agenda on the environment and conservation, but as senior White House correspondent Bill Plante explains, it's his move to rename America's highest mountain that's drawing the loudest praise -- and protest.

Iowa battleground

Julianna Goldman reports Donald Trump has gained more traction in the key proving ground of Iowa, where he already held the lead. As other Republican presidential hopefuls grapple for new tactics to try and slow his momentum, one has made an unexpected surge into second in the battleground state.

Desperate rush

Charlie D'Agata is on the Hungarian border, where thousands of refugees from Syria, along with migrants from Africa, Asia and elsewhere are rushing to sneak into Europe, clamoring over the border from Serbia before the Hungarian military can build a 13-foot-high fence to stem the tide of humanity.

Forgotten baby

Support is building for a woman who left her baby strapped to a shopping cart in a parking lot. Cherish Peterson, a mother of four young kids, says she was horrified to realize she drove off from a grocery store in Arizona last week without her 2-month-old son. Elaine Quijano reports on the roller coaster reaction on social media.

Organ donor

Thirteen years ago, Ellen Sherman was diagnosed with a disease that would eventually lead to kidney failure. Nobody in her family was a suitable match, leaving her desperate for a donor. That's when her former high school student, now-best-selling author Brad Meltzer, happened to call -- and everything changed. Jamie Wax has the story you'll see only on "CBS This Morning."

Bulls or bear?

After a gut-wrenching week that included a 1,000 point plunge in the Dow, investors may want to strap in for another bumpy ride. The volatility looks set to continue this week as the stage is set for a showdown between bulls and bears betting on the direction of the U.S. economy.

Golden years

For many retirees, the volatility in stocks is déjà vu all over again, evoking memories of the 2008 market crash that followed the housing bust. Many older workers postponed their retirement then or were laid off and forced to retire after seeing their 401(k) balances shrink. So even if retirement is five to 10 years away, you should be paying close attention to what's happening now.

Pet surgery

When veterinarians weren't sure how to treat a puppy with an unusual type of cleft palate problem, they collaborated with a pediatric plastic surgeon to adapt a technique used for children. They say the lessons learned from operating on dogs like this could also help human patients in the future.
