"The Simpsons" bring back the "3 a.m. phone call" to mock Donald Trump

What's the opposite of a ringing endorsement?

The folks behind "The Simpsons" are so serious about their dislike for Donald Trump that they're even willing to curtail their vacation to make their feelings known.

The long-running animated comedy is currently on hiatus, but it posted a clip to YouTube chiming in on the 2016 presidential election.

The clip features Homer and Marge in bed watching a campaign ad that begins, "It's 3 a.m. and the phone's ringing in the White House. Who do you want answering that call?"

First, Bill Clinton is seen picking up the phone and handing it to Hillary. Then, at Trump's place, the "Apprentice" star is shown ignoring the call to finish a tweet mocking Elizabeth Warren. Beside him in bed is a book of Adolf Hitler's greatest speeches.

"Put my name on the Lincoln Memorial, make Chris Christie eat a worm just for laughs, disband NATO and make me some scrambled eggs on a gold plate," Trump demands when he finally answers the phone. He then undergoes an hours-long getting ready process -- complete with spray-tan and a lapdog toupee -- before announcing he's ready, at which point the crisis has escalated.

The ad's tagline? "Paid for by Americans Who Are Really Starting to Miss Obama."

Marge then makes it clear to Homer that voting for Trump won't fly with her. "And that's how I became a Democrat," he says.

This wasn't the first time the long-running animated series has taken on the GOP nominee. Last July, shortly after Trump announced his candidacy, "The Simpsons" -- then also on a summer break -- released a brief clip spoofing the nominee's announcement of his candidacy and sending Homer on a fantastic voyage into Trump's hair.
