Texas police mistakenly pull over woman, kids at gunpoint

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas - Authorities in Forney, Texas are apologizing for mistakenly pulling over an innocent woman at gunpoint and handcuffing her in front of her four children, reports CBS DFW.

Officials say officers responding to a call earlier this month about an armed reckless driver pulled Kametra Barbour over in error, according to the station.

Video of the incident, captured via police dash cam, shows Barbour complying with the officers' demands to stick her hands outside her car window and exit the car and walk backwards towards police with her hands up. At one point, she is heard saying, "My kids! ...They're 6 and 8 and 10, 9. What are we doing? Oh, my God - you will terrify my children!"

Police have since issued an apology to Barbour and her family, calling the police stop "a frightening and unfortunate incident."

Authorities reportedly stopped Barbour even though her car did not match the initial vehicle description given to dispatch. The person who called 911 told authorities the person driving recklessly and waving a gun was in a "beige or tan-colored Toyota." Barbour was driving a burgundy Nissan Maxima, according to the station.

The caller also reportedly said the suspect vehicle was "occupied by four black males." Barbour was in the car with her two children and two godchildren - ages 6, 8, 9 and 10.

Police said in a statement that when officers realized there were kids in the car, "the call was immediately deescalated" and weapons were withdrawn.

On Facebook, Barbour said she was still shaken by the incident. She said she sat down with her children and had a "heart to heart lesson about how your life can change in a matter of seconds," reports the station.

In her post, Barbour went on to say how proud she was of her children and said they had learned to not to be "bitter or angry" and instead "stay calm" in a situation such as the one they found themselves in.
