Cops: Texas mom charged in drunken driving crash that killed 2 children

IRVING, Texas - A Texas woman was facing manslaughter charges Sunday in a drunken driving crash that killed two of her children and injured two more, CBS Dallas reported.

Police said Crystal Suniga, 30, lost control of her vehicle and it slammed into two parked cars around 8 p.m. Saturday near Gilbert Elementary School on East Pioneer Drive in Irving.

In the car with Suniga were her four children.

Another son, 16, and a daughter whose age was not known were also injured in the crash. The extent of their injuries were not immediately known but they were not believed to life-threatening.

Suniga suffered minor injuries, according to police, and was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.

A police spokesman said Suniga's blood alcohol-content level was 0.18 - more than twice the legal limit.

The mother faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of injury to a child and one count of intoxication assault.

Suniga was transferred to the Dallas County Jail on Sunday morning. No bond has been set.

Leslie Weaver, a spokeswoman for the Irving Independent School District, said the two boy who died attended Gilbert Elementary School and Austin Middle school. Grief counselors will be at each location on Monday, she said.
