Texas mom arrested in drowning deaths of 15-month-old twins
PEARLAND, Texas -- Police say that a Houston-area woman has been arrested in the February drowning deaths of her twin toddlers, according to CBS affiliate KHOU.
Police arrested Barbara Ramirez-Sifuentes, 21, Sunday afternoon after a grand jury indictment, according to the station. She is facing two counts of manslaughter, according to the Brazoria County District Attorney's Office.
The toddlers, Sabrina and Savannah Russo, were found unresponsive in a bathtub in a Pearland home in February. Both of the 15-month-old children were taken to the hospital -- one died that day and the other died days later, according to KHOU.
Their deaths were later ruled homicides by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
Deputies were able to make the arrest with the help of the Harris County Toll Road Authority's Incident Management Division dispatch and the license plate recognition system.
The suspect's plate was recognized as she traveled on the tollway, according to the station. Then, dispatchers followed the car until deputies were able to make the arrest.
The mother was taken to the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office Detention Center, where her bond was set at $100,000.
According to previous reports by the station, there was another child at the home. The three-year-old boy was later placed in care of child protective custody.
