Texas man kills himself while taking selfie with gun
HOUSTON -- A 19-year-old Texas man is dead after police say he accidentally shot himself while posing for a selfie with a gun.
Deleon Alonso Smith died of a gunshot wound to the throat about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment in southwestern Houston.
Investigators say Smith had found a gun and was taking pictures of himself and a cousin holding the weapon and posting them online when the gun discharged, killing Smith.
Investigators say the cousin was in another room when the gun fired.
The victim's family told CBS Houston affiliate KHOU-TV that Smith is survived by two young daughters and that he was a fun-loving person.
Family members told KHOU-TV that the victim never talked about suicide.
