Former Baltimore Raven tackle sentenced for dog's death
BALTIMORE -- Former Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Terrence Cody has been sentenced to 9 months in jail in connection with the death of his dog.
The 27-year-old Cody was sentenced Thursday in Baltimore County Circuit Court.
He had been convicted of several misdemeanors in connection with the starvation death of his dog Taz. He was also convicted of illegally possessing and neglecting an alligator.
Taz, a Canary mastiff, lived in Cody's former home in Reisterstown.
CBS Baltimore reports that Cody "intentionally tortured" the animal, failing to provide Taz with proper space, food, and veterinary care, according to court documents. Prosecutors said Cody intentionally inflicted pain on the dog before its death.
The Ravens terminated its contract with Cody in January 2015, while he was under investigation for animal cruelty.
Cody's girlfriend, Kourtney J. Kelley, 28, was sentenced last month to 60 days on a 5-count conviction of neglecting Taz, according to The Baltimore Sun.
