Teen murder suspect left wallet at crime scene, police say
INDIANAPOLIS - A 17-year-old boy was arrested in the shooting death of a 19-year-old Indianapolis man after authorities say they found the suspect's wallet at the crime scene, reports CBS affiliate WTTV.
Michael Grady is charged as an adult with murder in the death of David Phelps Jr., who was found shot to death at a home in Indianapolis the early morning hours of June 16.
Court documents obtained by WTTV indicate relatives in the home told authorities they were sleeping when they heard someone kick in their front door. Phelps' mother told police she saw two unknown males, who she believed to be in their teens, in her home. She reported one of the boys pointed a gun at her so she ran away and hid in a bedroom closet.
The victim's 17-year-old brother reportedly told police he and his brother were asleep in the bedroom they shared when they awoke to someone breaking into their house. According to the probable cause affidavit obtained by the station, Phelps went into the hallway to investigate when he was shot multiple times.
Authorities who responded to the home to investigate reportedly located a wallet in the front yard of the home with an ID card belonging to Grady inside.
He was later arrested.
