Teen in Detroit fatally shot over Air Jordan shoes, police say

DETROIT, Mich. -- A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a teenage boy over a pair of Air Jordan sneakers, CBS Detroit reports

The deadly shooting took place on Tuesday afternoon near Loyola High School in Detroit. The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution following the incident. 

Upon their arrival, paramedics pronounced the 17-year-old boy dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification. Police say the teenager did not attend classes at the high school. 

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was trying to sell a pair of sneakers to an unknown person when something went wrong. Shots were fired, the teen was struck and killed, and the shoes were stolen, police said. 

Police say a 20-year-old man who traveled with the victim was also struck by gunfire. His condition remains unknown at this time. 

The identity of the suspect has not been released. 

The incident remains under investigation.
