Teen accused in fatal Ohio mall shooting pleads not guilty

DAYTON, Ohio - A 16-year-old boy accused of trying to steal Nike sneakers from an Ohio mall shopper who then fatally shot another teen who was with the 16-year-old has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and robbery charges.

A Montgomery County court official confirmed that the boy entered the not-guilty plea Thursday in Dayton. He is being prosecuted as an adult.

Under Ohio law, a suspect can be held responsible for an accomplice's death during a robbery, as is alleged in this case.

Police say the two boys accosted shoppers who had bought limited-edition Air Jordan sneakers at the Dayton Mall days before Christmas. One boy showed a gun and was fatally shot by a shopper who had a concealed-weapons permit.
