Ted Cruz 2016 campaign raises $1 million in first day
Within one day of announcing his presidential bid, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas raised $1 million for his campaign, a Cruz spokesman told CBS News.
The tea party-backed senator launched his presidential campaign on Monday at Liberty University, a Christian school in Virginia. "I believe in the power of millions of courageous conservatives rising up to reignite the promise of America," he told the crowd there, explaining why he's running.
Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler said that since Monday's speech, Cruz's campaign has raised more than $2 million. Nearly $1 million of that has come from small donors online.
