Taylor Swift donates $50K to help her dancer's 1-year-old nephew battle cancer
Taylor Swift made a big drop in the bucket for a 13-month-old boy named Ayden, who was diagnosed with cancer this week.
The singer donated $50,000 to a GoFundMe fundraiser for the little boy, who is the nephew of Kim "Toshi" Davidson, one of Taylor's dancers on the 1989 World Tour.
"Baby Ayden, I'm lucky enough to perform with your uncle Toshi on tour," Swift wrote on the GoFundMe page. "All of us are praying for you and your mama and sending so much love your way. Love, Taylor."
Thanks to Swift's donation, the fundraiser has reached far beyond their $20K goal, with a total of $53,675 having been raised as of Wednesday evening.
"So I get off the plane in Toronto and this is the first thing I see," Toshi posted on Instagram along with a screenshot of Taylor's contribution. "@taylorswift is an angel and my family and I can't thank her enough ... She is such an incredible human being ... This will help Lil Toshi in this time of need ... Let's pray for him to beat this ... This unexpected gift is truly a blessing."
On Wednesday, the GoFundMe page was updated to include a special thank you to Taylor and Ayden's uncle Toshi.
"Thank you so much...words cannot express the deep gratitude we have for you two and everyone that is a part of TEAM AYDEN who have prayed and contributed to the cause! God Bless all of you!!!" the update read.
According to the GoFundMe page, Ayden's diagnosis came after he was in ICU for more than two weeks. As his mother Lindsey had to be by his side during this time, the page says that she was let go from her job.
Money donated to the fundraiser "will allow Lindsey to focus on Ayden and be with him day and night without having to leave his side," according to the page.
The page adds that Ayden will continue to go through tests "to find out exactly what type of cancer it is."
This follows Swift's Tumblr revelation in April that her mother, Andrea Finlay, had been diagnosed with cancer.
"Thank you for caring about my family so much that she would want me to share this information with you," she wrote. "I hope and pray that you never get news like this. Love you. Taylor."
