​Tampa police officer, suspects shot near beer brewery

TAMPA, Fla. --A police officer was wounded and a suspect killed during a shootout in Tampa Saturday afternoon,CBS affiliate WTSP reported.

Authorities said on Twitter that a witness called police around 4 p.m., saying that suspects in two cars were involved in an altercation and driving erratically.

One officer and two suspects were shot in an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of a Hyatt hotel, leaving one suspect dead.

The department said the officer was breathing and conscious and that a bulletproof vest may have saved his life.

A medical helicopter landed at the Yuengling Beer Company of Tampa to transport the officer to the hospital. The second suspect was also hospitalized.

The location of the shooting was not far from the University of South Florida and the Busch Gardens theme park.
