Talib Kweli glad Instagram put his "states rights" post back up

Talib Kweli is applauding his fans for rallying around a photo he posted on Instagram, which was initially taken down by the social media site.

The hip-hop star posted a historical photo Wednesday of a man waving a Confederate flag and holding a sign that used the N-word. He captioned it "aka states rights." But soon the entire post was gone from his Instagram page. Kweli says the social media network removed the photo on grounds that it violated "community guidelines."

Afterwards, the New York native ended up posting the same pic on Twitter, along with the tweet: "Wow @instagram removed my post. I posted pic of a dude waving a confederate flag holding a 'N-word [sic] go home' sign & wrote 'aka states rights.'"

He added, "Way to completely miss the point @instagram there's nothing 'community' about hiding your audience from the truth."

Kweli, who is known for his activism, then asked followers to weigh in about Instagram's removal of the picture. In the end, Instagram eventually put it back up: "Looks like @instagram put my post back up..." he remarked. Then he shared his gratitude to his followers for supporting his activism and free speech. "Thank you all for hitting up Instagram about my 'states rights' post. They put it back up because of your voices."
