Sweet tooth? Hostess baking up deep-fried Twinkies
Behold the Twinkie, its helium-light cream filling sheathed inside four inches of luscious sponge cake, and all of it packed with enough artificial ingredients to survive the Apocalypse. Can the classic American snack cake possibly get any better?
Two words: Deep. Fried. Hostess, the bakery company behind Twinkies, Ding Dongs, Ho Hos and other treats, is rolling out fried Twinkies, long a staple of county fairs and carnivals. Just crack open the box, pop them in the oven for a few minutes and watch your blood sugar soar.
Walmart (WMT) will release the new Twinkies nationwide on August 22, a company spokesman said. Walmart, which worked with Hostess to develop the cake, unveiled the product last week at the opening of its Culinary & Innovation Center in Arkansas.
The retailer will have exclusive rights to sell fried Twinkies for six months.
Worried the cakes won't satisfy those late-night cravings? They come in chocolate, too.
