Supporters say legal marijuana has enough signatures for Arizona ballot
PHOENIX -- Supporters of a voter initiative legalizing marijuana in Arizona say they've been told the measure has made the November ballot.
Secretary of State's office spokesman Matt Roberts says it appears the initiative has more than enough signatures but the determination isn't yet official.
The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol said Wednesday it has been told that it exceeded the needed 150,642 signatures. The Secretary of State has been working with counties to check the nearly 259,000 signatures the group submitted in late June.
The initiative would allow adults age 21 and older to possess limited amounts of marijuana. Marijuana would have an added 15 percent tax going mainly to schools and be regulated similar to alcohol.
A court challenge to the initiative is set for a hearing on Friday.
