Sunday: Kellyanne Conway, Donna Brazile, Ben Carson, and Jason Chaffetz
With just over 10 weeks until Election Day, the 2016 race has gone nuclear, as Donald Trump labels Hillary Clinton a “bigot” in an attempt to woo minority voters, and Clinton accuses Trump of “taking hate groups mainstream.” How will it impact the race? We’ll examine that and more this Sunday on “Face the Nation.”
We’ll talk with Trump’s new campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, about how the GOP nominee is adjusting his tone and his presentation as November approaches. How does she believe Trump can turn the ship around and ultimately defeat Clinton? And is she worried Trump may alienate some of his core supporters by trying to pivot to the center?
We’ll also interview Donna Brazile, the interim chair of the Democratic National Committee, about how Clinton and the Democrats will carry out their strategy between now and Election Day. Is she worried new concerns about the Clinton Foundation could dog Hillary Clinton in the home stretch? What does she think of Clinton’s attack on Trump’s “alt right” supporters? And does she think Trump will have any luck courting minority voters?
We’ll talk with retired neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, who will travel with Trump to Detroit in September – part of the GOP nominee’s new outreach campaign. Does he think it will pay off? What more can Trump do to win over constituencies that typically don’t side with the GOP?
We’ll also talk with Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a Utah Republican who chairs the House Oversight Committee, about the 2016 election and the recent controversy regarding donors to the Clinton Foundation who met with Hillary Clinton when she was secretary of state. Clinton says there’s a lot of smoke, but no fire. Does Chaffetz have any evidence of wrongdoing?
And as always, we’ll make sense of the busy news week with an expert political panel. This week’s panelists include Leslie Sanchez, a Republican strategist and CBSN contributor, the New York Times Magazine’s Mark Leibovich, the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg, and the Washington Post’s Ed O’Keefe.
