Sunday: John McCain, Ted Cruz, Nikki Haley, and former Dallas Police Chief David Brown

Tensions over North Korea's missile and nuclear programs entered a dangerous new phase this week with the rogue regime's successful test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile. President Trump was overseas at the G-20 summit in Europe, engaging with some uneasy U.S. allies and coming face to face with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time since taking office. This Sunday on Face the Nation, we'll examine the challenges confronting the U.S. on the global stage.

We'll talk with Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, the chairman of the Armed Services Committee, about the flash points on America's radar, from Russia to North Korea to the Middle East. Can the U.S. find the right approach in Afghanistan, after more than a decade and a half of war? What did he make of Mr. Trump's meeting with Putin? How would he assess the progress of the fight against ISIS? And how would he advise the president to handle the provocations from Pyongyang?

We'll also hear from the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, about how she's leveraging her position in the multinational body on behalf of the administration's agenda. Does she see any signs from China that they're ready to crack down on North Korea? And what of Russia's continued belligerence in Ukraine and elsewhere?

We'll talk with Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, a conservative who's pushing GOP leaders for a more complete repeal of Obamacare in the Republican health care bill. How would he describe the current state of health care negotiations? And what will he and other conservatives do if Senate leaders decide to pursue a more modest bill to attract Democratic support?

Changing gears a bit, we'll talk with former Dallas Police Chief David Brown a year after five officers on his force were targeted and killed. We'll ask Brown what he took away from that searing experience, and we'll discuss what his new book, "Called to Rise," can tell us about life and leadership.

As always, we'll take a closer look at the week's news with an expert political panel. This Sunday, we'll hear from CBS News White House and Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan, Washington Post Columnist David Ignatius, Politico Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent Michael Crowley, and David Nakamura of the Washington Post.

It's going to be an exciting broadcast, so make sure you tune in! Check your local listings for airtimes.
