Sunday: Christie, Nunes, Schiff, and new Battleground Tracker polls
Hillary Clinton's 11-hour grilling before the House Benghazi committee is now in the record books, the 2016 campaign continues accelerating, and House Republicans lurch toward a resolution of their leadership crisis. This Sunday, "Face the Nation" will bring you the latest on those stories and more, plus a new Battleground Tracker poll that breaks down the current state of the primary race in the key early states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.
We'll sit down with Republican presidential Chris Christie to talk about his campaign and why he believes he's the person best prepared to take on Clinton, if she wins the Democratic nomination. The New Jersey governor has a few strong debate performances under his belt, but polls continue to place him only in the middle of the crowded GOP field. How does he break out?
We'll talk with California Republican Rep. Devin Nunes about the latest developments in the fight against extremists in the Middle East. We'll also get his take on the leadership race in the House GOP and the prospect that Illinois Rep. Paul Ryan could be the next speaker of the house. Nunes blasted some of his most conservative colleagues as "right-wing Marxists" after they prompted the departure of outgoing Speaker John Boehner. Does he still feel the same way?
We'll also interview Nunes' Democratic colleague, California Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the House Benghazi committee who has slammed GOP leaders for spending $4.7 million in taxpayer money while unearthing "nothing new" to tell the families of the four Americans who lost their lives in Benghazi. We'll get his reaction to Clinton's marathon testimony Thursday, and we'll ask him where he thinks the investigation should go from here. Could Democrats walk away from the committee as some have threatened?
For an in-depth look at 2016 election, we'll sit down with CBS News Elections Director Anthony Salvanto, who's equipped with a fresh set of CBS News Battleground Tracker polls to give us the latest poll numbers in both parties out of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. Who's up, who's down, and who's on life support? We'll find out.
And as always, we'll have an expert political panel ready to answer all of the most pressing political questions of the week, including The New York Times Magazine's Mark Leibovich, the Washington Post's Robert Costa, USA Today's Susan Page, and National Review's Reihan Salam.
We hope you can join us Sunday for what promises to be an exciting show! Check your local listings for airtimes.
