Stradivarius violin stolen by armed robber in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – A Stradivarius violin said to be worth millions of dollars was stolen in an armed robbery at Wisconsin Lutheran College on Jan. 27, reports CBS affiliate WDJT.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, Concert Mast of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Frank Almond was approached and tased by a suspect at about 10:20 Monday night. Almond had been carrying the violin, which was stolen during the altercation.

Police say the suspect fled the scene in a late 1980s or early 1990s maroon Plymouth or Dodge Minivan.

The incident occurred in a parking lot near the rear of the college campus.

The police department is working with federal and international law enforcement agencies to return the violin, which is estimated to be worth millions.
