"Star Wars" Facebook page hits back at sexist comment
May the force be with you, "Star Wars" social media manager.
The "Star Wars" Facebook page hit back at a sexist comment on its page after it posted a fan depiction of Phasma, a female stormtrooper who will be featured in the upcoming film "The Force Awakens."
The page had posted about a contest it was holding for "Star Wars" fans, saying, "Feeling inspired by Phasma? Your Star Wars: The Force Awakens-inspired art could land you a spot in a professional art exhibit, among other prizes." The comment accompanied fan art of Phasma, wearing typical stormtrooper armor along with a cape.
One Facebook user wrote, "Not to be sexist but it's really hard to tell that's female armor for me."
It's not hard to imagine the "Star Wars" social media manager throwing his or her hands up in the air in indignation when you read the page's response: "It's armor. On a woman. It doesn't have to look feminine."
The shut-it-down response received hundreds of likes, but the original comment from the fan and the page's response were later taken down.
The upcoming "Star Wars" flick "The Force Awakens" will be Phasma's debut in the franchise. "Game of Thrones" actress Gwendoline Christie will portray Captain Phasma, and she recently expressed her excitement at portraying a woman without worrying about appearances. She said she was happy to play a character in which the appeal is "not about the way she looks in the flesh."
"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" will hit theaters on Dec. 18.
