St. Louis minority police group to declare "no confidence" in chief

ST. LOUIS -- A group that represents black police officers in St. Louis says it plans to announce today that its members have "no confidence" in police chief Sam Dotson, reports CBS St. Louis.

The group, which is called the Ethical Society of Police, said the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department lacks a "comprehensive community engagement plan" to address concerns raised in protests that followed the August 2014 police killing of Michael Brown in nearby Ferguson.

In April, the St. Louis Police Department created a 'Community Engagement and Organizational Development Division,' CBS St. Louis reports.

The group also criticized the department's crime reduction and promotion, discipline and job placement practices. It claims that more than 80 percent of lieutenants promoted during Dotson's tenure are white. It also said in its statement, "a complete evaluation of Chief Dotson will be released within 90 days."

The Ethical Society of Police is expected to make its announcement at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.
