Southern Calif. police investigate apparent murder-suicide

DOWNEY, Calif. -- Detectives are investigating the deaths of a man, woman and child after their bodies were found in a Southern California apartment Wednesday, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Police officials say that family members could not reach the victims for several days and relatives were let into the home in Downey by the landlord. Authorities were called to the scene about 10 miles from Los Angeles after a gruesome discovery.

When officers arrived around 8 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said they saw the bodies of an adult woman and a one-year-old baby boy. The body of an adult man was reportedly found inside a bedroom.

The identities of the victims are being withheld pending family notification, reports the station.

According to police, the man and woman had been dating for years and were living together at the apartment. However, family members explained to authorities that the man recently made threats against his girlfriend, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Detectives say no weapons were found in the apartment and the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide.
