Source: South Carolina councilman shot and killed

CHESTER, S.C. -- Odell Williams, a Chester, S.C., city councilman was shot and killed on Tuesday evening, reports CBS affiliate WBTV.

Fellow city councilman King Thomspon tells WBTV that Williams was shot around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Police have not released few details about the incident and have not said if a shooter has been identified.

Thompson said he confirmed the death at Chester Regional Medical Center, where Williams was brought after the shooting.

Williams made headlines in March when he was accused by state investigators of making threatening remarks to the city's police chief and another officer. He was charged with two counts of threatening the life of a public official.

The incident originally occurred following a March 10 meeting of the Chester City Council, when Williams allegedly confronted Chester Police Chief Andre Williams and another officer in the city hall restrooms.

According to a police report, Williams said, "I'm not afraid to die. I will take you out and any [expletive] and before I go out I will take a bunch of [expletive] out."

Councilman Williams denied the police report and said he never threatened Police Chief Williams.
