Deadly winter storm sweeps across the country

The nation's capital woke up to a snowstorm Monday, the same day Congress convened to certify President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 election.

The winter weather hit much of the U.S., causing widespread flight and train cancellations

The snowfall was the most Washington, D.C., has seen since 2022, according to WUSA, a CBS affiliate. Many residents enjoyed the winter weather by participating in a giant snowball fight in Meridian Hill Park.

The giant pandas at the National Zoo, who arrived in October and will make their public debut on Jan. 24, also enjoyed the snow. "Flakes stuck to their fur as the bears frolicked and somersaulted," the zoo wrote in a social media post, sharing videos of the bears.
