Small plane crashes in California, killing pilot
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- A small plane has crashed and caught fire in Riverside, killing the pilot.
The single engine plane went down in the yard of a home Sunday.
Fire Capt. Tim Odebralski said the pilot radioed the tower at Riverside Municipal Airport around 5 p.m. to report losing engine power, according to CBS News. He told the tower he did not think he would make it and then crashed into the fence. He says the fire was quickly doused and nobody on the ground was hurt.
The pilot was the only person on board.
No damage was done to the house nearby. It is unclear where the pilot was traveling from.
FAA Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the single-engine Beechcraft BE35 crashed about a half-mile east of the airport.
