Wisconsin girls to be tried as adults in "Slender Man" attack
WAUKESHA, Wis. --Two Wisconsin girls accused of trying to kill their friend as a sacrifice to the horror fiction character "Slender Man" are properly charged as adults, a Wisconsin state appeals court ruled Wednesday.
The 2nd District Appeals court on Wednesday affirmed a lower court's determination that it was reasonable to try the girls as adults. They could appeal the rulings to the state Supreme Court.
The girls were 12 years old during the May 31, 2014 attack. Authorities say they lured their friend, also 12, into the woods after a birthday sleepover and stabbed her 19 times. The victim survived.
The girls later told police the attack was meant to honor "Slender Man," a fictional Internet character. Slender Man is described in fictional stories as an unnaturally tall, thin demon-like figure that lacks facial features. He is said to live in a mansion in a forest.
Authorities say the girls hoped to live in that fictional home after the attack.
The two girls are charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide where convictions could send them to prison for up to 45 years.
As juveniles, they could be incarcerated for up to three years and then supervised until age 18.
