More than 300 passengers fall ill on Royal Caribbean cruise, company says
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A Royal Caribbean cruise did not go well for a few hundred its passengers, CBS Miami reports. The Independence of the Seas returned to Port Everglades carrying more than 300 sick occupants.The ship docked in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday with people complaining of gastrointestinal issues.
Crews spent the entire day cleaning up the ship and the new passengers who got on board said they are hoping for a healthier experience.
The cruise line released a statement saying, "the 332 cases represent fewer than 6 percent of the more than 5,500 guests on board."
One person told CBS Miami that she was using more hand sanitizer in wake of the news.
The Associated Press reports that the 5-night cruise was interrupted for passengers who experienced vomiting and diarrhea. One passenger, Victoria Nolan, described people throwing up in the elevators.
