"NCIS: New Orleans" star on city's "breathtaking" music scene

Actor Scott Bakula is recognized for his role as the time-traveling physicist in the popular sci-fi series, "Quantum Leap." The role earned him a Golden Globe for best actor in 1992.

He now stars as special agent Dwayne Pride on "NCIS: New Orleans," which returns Tuesday for its second season. The season premiere jumps right into the drama and action, as the cast searches for bombers of a military convoy on a New Orleans bridge.

"People like the kind of show it is," the actor told "CBS This Morning" Tuesday, speaking about the success of show, which was last season's most watched series on CBS and had an average viewership of 18 million viewers.

Putting himself in the perspective of the viewers, Bakula said that he enjoyed trying to solve the mysteries.

"The characters are great and it's fun to see how they handle this crazy, intense work on the side like that," he said.

Bakula, who made his transition to television from the Broadway stage, also hinted that he may be revealing some of his musical talents through his collaboration with New Orleans musicians in the upcoming season.

"As a musician, to be in the place where jazz was born and to be around that environment is breathtaking to me all the time," said Bakula, who previously said the city's rich music culture captured his heart. His love for the city also inspired him to executive produce the docuseries, "New Orleans, Here & Now."

"NCIS: New Orleans" will air its second season premiere Tuesday, Sept. 22nd at 9pm on CBS.
