Gunman killed in attack on religious site in Saudi Arabia
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- State television in Saudi Arabia is reporting that a shooting has targeted a Shiite place of worship in the kingdom's east and that the attacker has been shot dead.
The state TV report said the shooting happened Friday night in the city of Saihat. It said there were other people wounded in the attack, without elaborating or offering a motive.
Saihat is a predominantly Shiite city on the Arabian Gulf. Social media accounts showed pictures of wounded, as well as video with the sound of gunfire.
Shiites in Saudi Arabia have come under attack by Sunni extremists in the past. Saudi Arabia also has been targeted by militants with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS.
