San Francisco coroner says human remains are from 1 man

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco medical examiner has determined that the human remains found inside a suitcase abandoned on a downtown street belong to an unidentified light-skinned man.

Authorities will now turn to a DNA laboratory to determine the identification of the person.

The suitcase was found abandoned Wednesday afternoon in the city's South of Market neighborhood. More body parts were found nearby.

Police say the case is under investigation, with determinations about the cause and manner of death pending.

Investigators have a rough description of a suspect, but they aren't releasing additional details.

Homicide investigators went door-to-door Thursday in a San Francisco neighborhood looking for surveillance camera video - or anything else - that could be a clue to the case.

Police say they also have surveillance video recorded Wednesday of a person with the suitcase.
