Family members remove items from San Bernardino shooters' home
SAN BERNARDINO -- The family of the husband and wife who killed 14 people at a holiday party in San Bernardino removed items from the couple's home in nearby Redlands on Saturday.
The Press-Enterprise reported Syed Rizwan Farook's relatives arrived at his townhome in a U-Haul truck Saturday morning. They included his mother, Rafia, and his brother, Syed Raheel, a Navy veteran, the newspaper said.
A man unscrewed the plywood blocking the front entrance and movers could be seen carrying items into the truck.
Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, lived in the townhouse with their six-month-old daughter. The couple was killed in a shootout with police hours after opening fire at the Inland Regional Center.
Farook's sister and her husband are in the process of trying to adopt the little girl, who was left with his mother the day of the shooting.
After the attack, investigators said they found an arsenal of ammunition and homemade bombs inside the home. The landlord later let reporters inside, where they saw baby items, family photos and dirty dishes in a sink.
An attorney told the newspaper it was a difficult day for the family and that they would not be answering any questions.
The Press Enterprise said as she was leaving, Rafia Farook thanked reporters for expressing condolences. When asked if there was anything she'd like to say about her son, she replied somberly: "No. Thank you."
