San Antonio fires officer who body-slammed student

SAN ANTONIO --A school police officer whowas recorded on cell phone camera appearing to body slam a 12-year-old girl has been fired, reports CBS affiliate KENS.

Officer Joshua Kehm was dismissed after an investigation by the San Antonio Independent School District. The incident occurred on March 29 at Rhodes Middle School in San Antonio and Kehm was initially suspended after the video went viral.

School superintendent Pedro Martinez said in a statement released Monday that the officer's "report was inconsistent with the video and it was also delayed, which is not in accordance with the general operating procedures of the police department."

"We understand that situations can sometimes escalate to the point of requiring a physical response; however, in this situation we believe that the extent of the response was absolutely unwarranted," Martinez said.

According to the student's mother, she suffered cuts and bruises to her face and was suspended for two days following the incident.
