RuPaul wins first Emmy
All those years of work finally paid off.
“RuPaul’s Drag Race” host and outspoken entertainer RuPaul Charles took home his first Emmy Sunday night, winning a Creative Arts Emmy for outstanding host of a reality or reality competition series. It was also Charles’ first-ever Emmy nomination.
Other nominees included Ryan Seacrest (“American Idol”), Jane Lynch (“Hollywood Game Night”), Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn (“Project Runway”), Tom Bergeron (“Dancing with the Stars”) and Steve Harvey (“Little Big Shots”).
“I really didn’t expect this,” Charles told press backstage at the awards show. “I came here thinking I got invited to the prom and I’m going to dance my ass off tonight, but i didn’t expect that I would have this in my hand while I was dancing.”
“It’s a very special night not just for me but for all the young people around the world who dance to the beat of a different drummer.”
The reality drag competition was also nominated another category -- best costumes for a variety, nonfiction or reality program -- though “The Wiz Live!” took home that award.
