Ron Paul: Donald Trump winning GOP nomination is "realistic"
Ron Paul, the father of Republican presidential candidate and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, chimed in Wednesday with his opinion on Donald Trump's chances at securing the GOP nomination.
When asked during a Newsmax TV interview if he believed the current GOP front-runner was likely to end up on the Republican ticket, Paul responded: "At this point, it certainly is realistic."
"But," he added, "if I had a limited sum of money that I thought, you know, it's a sure bet, I probably wouldn't invest a whole lot."
Paul, himself a former Republican presidential candidate and Texas congressman, complained that polling and the media vetting of White House contenders is "generally rigged."
"They pick people, they boost them up. It's entertainment. And Trump really fitted into that quite well," he said.
On the possibility of his own son winning the GOP primaries, Paul said: "I think he may well surprise everybody because he has good organization and caucus states are different."
Paul added that the caucus states, like Iowa, were "where we always did well."
In 2012, Paul's campaign finished third in Iowa, behind former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and the eventual GOP nominee, Mitt Romney.
