Rob Lowe joins "Code Black" as series regular for season two

Rob Lowe isn't keeping away from the small screen.

Following the cancelation of his Fox sitcom, "The Grinder," after one season, Lowe is moving over to "Code Black," joining the CBS medical drama for its second season, it was announced Tuesday.

The former "Parks and Recreation" and "West Wing" star will play Col. Ethan Willis, a doctor in the Army's prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program who comes to the show's Angels Memorial to teach its staff -- led by Marcia Gay Harden's Dr. Leanne Rorish -- about combat medicine.

Lowe himself seemed excited for the news to become public, as he celebrated the 4th of the July with a rather cryptic promise of a forthcoming announcement.

Very exciting news coming. Stay tuned. #Television
