Cops: Family's SUV shot at in road rage over windshield fluid
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- Police say someone opened fire on a family's SUV on a southern California road in an apparent road rage incident over windshield washer fluid.
The L.A. County Sheriff's Office is still searching for the shooter in the Monday evening incident, which was captured on dashcam video by another driver on the road.
CBS Los Angeles reports the family of four--including a child - was traveling in Santa Clarita in their Cadillac Escalade when they apparently accidentally sprayed their windshield washer fluid on a nearby Honda. The driver of the Honda became enraged, and is seen on video pulling up to the passenger side of the Escalade.
Police say the driver began verbally harassing the family. At one point, he's seen on video attempting to force the Escalade into the center median as the SUV speeds up and slows down in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
Then, the driver of the Honda pulls out a handgun, and two gunshots are heard. One of them strikes the Escalade's tire and the SUV, disabled, is forced to stop in the middle of the road. The Honda is seen speeding off.
"Certainly you would be shaken up if you were just driving down the road, doing what a normal person would do, and someone decided to shoot at you," L.A. County Sheriff's Lt. Brenda Cambra told the station.
No one was hurt.
Police are thanking the driver who came forward with the dashcam video and say it's provided crucial clues in the investigation. They're asking anyone else who has information to contact them.
